​​About the MillStone House

Adjoining the George Washington National Forest and built in 1943, the MillStone House has served as a community resource for many years. It has housed an ice cream parlor, a store, dining facility, a tavern, a private residence, and often served as both a residence and place of business.

For many years it was the home of various descendants of the White family that ran the adjacent diner now known as WhiteWay Lunch now called White’s Wayside.

After extensive upgrades, a special use permit for events and overnight guests was granted in 2017. The MillStone House and property is a non-smoking establishment with central air and heat. The solar powered, one-story building offers easy access from our parking area. ​High speed internet allows visitors to be connected with ease.

Nearby attractions are plentiful! Bring your camera to capture some of the amazing beauty and wildlife that this area offers. Shenandoah Mountain boasts pastoral panoramic views right from the parking area. For history buffs there is an interpretive trail describing the lives of Civil War soldiers at Fort Edward Johnson. Hikers, bikers, foragers, birders, outdoor enthusiasts and horseback riders will find a multitude trails to choose from in The George Washington National Forest. Braley Pond, Elkhorn Lake and numerous creeks offer fishing possibilities, options for picnics, and amazing opportunities for exploring nature. The large, natural light filled dining room provides the perfect atmosphere for meals or meetings and can accommodate up to 20 guests. 

The home-like living room is a comfortable space for small group discussions and relaxation. The working stone hearth, wood stove fireplace and rich wood on the walls and ceiling make this a very cozy area.

A fully equipped kitchen offers food preparation options. Alternatively, conveniently located next to White’s Wayside, groups can arrange catering from the diner. 

Two private bedrooms are available for overnight guests. One bedroom (Full bed) includes a private bath with shower. 

The other bedroom (Queen bed) has a nearby bathroom that includes a tub. Rooms are available with weekly as well as nightly rates. Towels are provided.
